Whether your style is best reflected by a bright indoor studio, a sun-drenched field, classic historic architecture or an energetic city street, I can guarantee you that Austin has a space for you.
I have compiled a list of my absolute favorite photography locations around town to help inspire your next engagement session, family portraits, or individual gallery.
The Contemporary Austin – Laguna Gloria: European Romance & Fine Art Vibe

If you want your portraits to feel deeply romantic, artistic and entirely transportive, Laguna Gloria is unmatched. Nestled along Lake Austin, this historic Italian-style villa features formal manicured gardens, hidden pathways and striking contemporary outdoor sculptures. The combination of classic architecture and lush greenery acts as a stunning backdrop that feels miles away from Texas.
Because it is an active museum, Laguna Gloria requires a professional photography permit fee and advanced booking. It is a popular spot, so planning ahead is a must. But, I promise you, the timeless gallery look is completely worth it!
Pace Bend Park: Dramatic Cliffs & Cinematic Sunsets

This location is for the humans who live for adventure and wide-open spaces. Located out on Lake Travis, Pace Bend Park trades soft garden paths for dramatic limestone cliffs, rugged trails and expansive horizons. It has an incredible, cinematic scale that makes golden hour here is nothing short of magical.
The terrain is uneven and rocky, so don’t worry about wearing formal heels the whole time. Bring a pair of walking shoes to swap into between shots!
Commons Ford Ranch: Dreamy Fields & Grounded Nature

Commons Ford Ranch Metropolitan Park is famous for its sprawling, golden-toned restoration prairies and massive heritage trees. If you want a session where you can run through tall grass or sit together by a quiet, rustic barn facade, this is your place.
If you are down for a short walk through the shaded hiking trails, the park opens up to a sweet little waterfront dock area right on Lake Austin. The natural canopy filters the midday sun beautifully, making it an awesome location for soft light.
The Spot Studio: Sleek, Minimalist & Daylight-Flooded

If you want a completely controlled, beautifully high-end aesthetic where your style takes center stage, this is it. Located in North Austin, The Spot Studio is a luxury editorial space featuring soaring 15-foot ceilings, clean white floors and an intentionally minimal blank canvas layout.
The studio features massive, west-facing window openings that pull in gorgeous natural light throughout the day and rich, golden highlights in the late afternoon. This location also has unique floor-to-ceiling drapes available in brown, blue, and ivory, different paper backdrops and a variety of stools and chairs for props. It is a self-service space by appointment only, meaning we get total privacy to turn up some music and create magic together.
Hotel Ella: Historic Luxury & Editorial Elegance

Genuinely sophisticated with a touch of vintage charm. Hotel Ella is a stunning, beautifully preserved late-19th-century Greek Revival estate right in the center of the city. Featuring grand wrap-around verandas, elegant white columns and gorgeous interior spaces, it is a dream location for high-end, editorial portrait sessions.
Hotel Ella allows professional photography sessions for a fee, making it a fantastic premium indoor and outdoor hybrid option. If it happens to rain on our scheduled afternoon, don’t worry! The covered patios and indoor architecture mean we can keep shooting without missing a beat.
Butler Metro Park: Modern Urban Energy & Skyline Views

For those who thrive on city life and want Austin’s signature energy woven into their story. Butler Metro Park offers wide open plazas, modern pathways, a brilliant night-lit fountain and the most iconic, unobstructed views of the downtown Austin skyline. It perfectly balances urban architecture with green park space.
The skyline view from Doug Sahm Hill during twilight is stunning! Because it sits directly adjacent to Lady Bird Lake and the Long Center, we can easily grab a massive variety of modern backdrops within a short walk.
South Congress & The State Capitol: Bold, Iconic & Authentically Austin

Pairing the energetic streetscapes of South Congress Avenue with the majestic, historic architecture of the Texas State Capitol gives you the ultimate Austin experience. It is a mix of colorful local storefront murals, historic brick paths and grand granite staircases.
This is an awesome choice for couples or individuals who want a lively, interactive session. Because these are bustling public spaces, shooting during weekday mornings is the best way to bypass the crowds and catch that crisp, clean morning light.
McKinney Falls State Park: Dramatic Waterfalls & Textural Limestone

McKinney Falls State Park allows you to step right onto massive, sweeping shelves of limestone where Onion Creek pours over rushing waterfalls. The contrast between the slick bedrock, deep green pools and surrounding forest offers a gorgeous, textured framing for portraits.
The park frequently hits visitor capacity on weekends, so securing a day-use pass online in advance is essential. There is a photography fee collected at the gate and because we will be traversing natural rock shelves, stable shoes are highly recommended for safety.
How to Choose Your Austin Portrait Spot
These are my favorites for a reason, but they are not the only places we can explore. I am always discovering new corners of the city and matching locations to the unique energy of the clients in front of my lens.
Here’s how to think about choosing your location:
- Does it feel like you? This is number one! You could have a session at the most famous museum in Texas, but if you are happiest hiking in the woods, it just won’t feel right. Pick a location that matches your daily energy, not just what looks cool on a feed.
- What are you wearing? I always recommend planning your wardrobe and your location hand-in-hand. A flowing, earthy dress at Commons Ford Ranch tells a completely different story than a sleek, modern suit at Hotel Ella or The Spot Studio. Both are stunning, they just celebrate different sides of you!
- Trust your photographer’s eye. When you share the general feeling you are chasing and trust me to guide you to the exact patch of trees or studio corner, the session unfolds effortlessly. You know how you want your memories to feel; I know how the camera translates the environment and the light. Let’s combine those!
